Basically, the process depends on what you want to do: jailbreak, unlock, or both. Usually, iPhone users do both jailbreaking and unlocking to maximize the potential of their phone. It is possible to just jailbreak without unlocking, however, unlocking without jailbreaking is very difficult, and only a few software providers do this for you, at a very high rate (the reason they charge so much is probably because not many people want to just unlock the phone and they bank in on the false impression people have that jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty… again this is not true).
